Matwork for Whole Body Pelvic Health
A complete, hands-on introduction to the Whole Body Pelvic Health Method, from its theoretical foundations through to full practical application on the mat with props, this workshop is a must first step into the WBPH framework created by Claire Sparrow.
This exciting workshop with pelvic floor expert and Polestar educator, Claire Sparrow, will teach you about common pelvic floor dysfunctions, why it is not actually a “floor” and what are the key imbalances.Using a mixture of theory and practical work on the mat using small props, we will look at how to understand these concepts to work with your clients in the Pilates environment.
You will come away from the workshop understanding:
- What are the common dysfunctions affecting women including hypertonicity and learn a new perspective on pelvic organ prolapse.
- Learn to assess for common imbalances that impact pelvic floor function in movement and life
- The role of mindset, imagery and empowerment
- How to create an environment for change
- Learn how to adapt the mat to support the needs of your female pelvic health clients
Continuing Education Credits: 6 Polestar CPD points
Modules
| Day 1 | Saturday, March 6 (10:00 - 17:00 ) |
Across the weekend, participants will:
- Describe the three primary pelvic health patterns seen in Pilates: hypertonic presentations, compensation strategies, and lack of coordination and pressure control

- Understand why isolated pelvic floor strengthening is insufficient and how a whole-body approach delivers better outcomes for clients
- Conduct basic pelvic health assessment across multiple orientations: supine, prone, quadruped, seated, and standing
- Identify compensatory strategies, hypertonic presentations, and coordination difficulties in movement
- Apply myofascial release techniques using the Whole Body Pelvic Health Ball
- Adapt familiar Pilates mat exercises through a pelvic health lens using the four WBPH concepts
- Apply WBPH principles to apparatus exercises across Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrels
- Develop a repeatable clinical reasoning process for pelvic health programming in the studio
- Teach pelvic health topics with greater confidence, clarity, and responsibility while remaining firmly within scope of practice
Who This Course Is For
- Comprehensively trained Pilates teachers from all schools and lineages
- Studio owners and senior teachers who want to bring pelvic health expertise in-house
- Pilates educators looking to expand their scope through a whole-body, movement-based approach
- Teachers who regularly encounter clients with pelvic health concerns and want a clear, practical framework for supporting them
- Movement professionals seeking to understand the relationship between pelvic health, posture, and full-body function
No prior training in pelvic health is required. Comprehensive Pilates training is the only prerequisite , only curiosity and a willingness to look at the body differently are what you bring.
This is an immersive two-day weekend intensive totalling 14 hours of teaching across theory, guided discussion, assessment practice, and hands-on studio application. The two days are designed as a single, coherent learning arc . Day One builds the knowledge and assessment skills that make Day Two fully possible.
Day One: Theory, Assessment & Foundations
Day One establishes the clinical and conceptual framework that underpins all Whole Body Pelvic Health teaching. The day covers:
- The three pelvic health patterns most commonly seen in Pilates: hypertonic presentations, compensation strategies, and lack of coordination and pressure control
- The four WBPH concepts : breath, release, range of motion, and coordination explored through lecture, guided discussion, and practical movement
- Myofascial release techniques taught using the Whole Body Pelvic Health Ball, giving teachers an immediately applicable tool for hypertonic and restricted presentations
- Practical pelvic health assessment in pairs across multiple positions: supine, prone, quadruped, seated, and standing
- Introduction to corrective strategies based on patterns observed during assessment
Day Two: Mat & Apparatus Application
Day Two is entirely practical. Taking exercises familiar to all comprehensively trained Pilates teachers, participants learn to adapt and teach through a Whole Body Pelvic Health lens. The day covers:
- Mat repertoire: adapting, modifying, and progressing familiar exercises in response to the pelvic health patterns identified on Day One
- Apparatus application across Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and Barrel: focusing on exercises most likely to intersect with pelvic health presentations
- Development of a clinical reasoning process for making intelligent, responsive choices in real time
- Integration of Day One assessment skills directly into teaching practice across the full studio
Upon successful completion of the 6-hour in-person workshop, participants will receive an official Certificate of Attendance from Polestar UK, which can be used as proof of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for insurance, professional body recognition, or ongoing education records.
